Until now, I never...
Learned about the Work of Milton Gladwell

Milton Gladwell Quote

Our Krypton group is meeting in a few days, and we’ve decided to start a new course, called The Sociology of Success:  Culture and Choice, based on the work of Milton Gladwell.  His name didn’t seem familiar to me when I read it, but now that I’ve been delving into the course material, I’m realizing that I’ve probably been exposed to a lot of his work through various mediums.

I’m excited to do get back to doing the Krypton curriculum with the group, but I’m a little nervous that it’s a bit heady and intellectual.  The first link on curriculum brought be to a definition of “habitus” and oh my, that kind of hurt my head to read.  And then there was an article from the New Yorker to read called Getting In, which was very interesting, but the syllabus said it would take 13 minutes to read, and I think it took me 13 minutes to read just the first page.  Uh oh.  I’m not sure what the rest of the group is going to thing.  Oh well.  We’ll just see where it goes…

Overall though, what Milton Gladwell has to say is very thought provoking and makes me think mostly about how I’m raising my kids, what influence I have on them, and what influence peers, culture, and luck will play.  Hmmmmm.
