Until now, I never...
Painted my Design onto Fabric

photo 1-1

A while back I got an offer from Spoonflower to print a free fabric sample, so I quickly put together a fabric design using a little TV I drew a while ago.  I received the sample a few days later, and I loved it – so vibrant and pretty on polyesther and the design came out really great.  So I decided to order a whole yard of it, but this time I ordered it on a more practical heavier weight cotton.  The picture wasn’t quite as vibrant as on the polyester, but it was still very nice.  But what would I do with this fabric?

Well these days I am quite into making pillows, so I of course wanted to make a pillow out of it.  I thought it would look cool to make a big version of the TV on one side of the pillow and use the Spoonflower fabric on the other.  But how would I make the big version?  I guess I would have to draw it.  So I went to Joanne Fabrics and bought a fabric pen and drew a big version of the TV on a piece of grey fabric.  The pen was pretty crappy, but after I drew the TV, I got out my stash of fabric paints out and started painting the stripes of the TV.  And I loved painting on the fabric.  It was so satisfying and zen-like, and the way the paint comes out on the fabric is so vibrant and bright.  After the paint dried I went back over the line drawing with a Sharpie, which worked way better than the fabric pen.  So now I know.  And I love it!  I can’t wait to see how it come out when I put the whole thing together…
