Rode our Bikes to School in the Pouring Rain

You’d think living in Seattle we would bike in the rain all of the time.  Well we don’t.  Because it doesn’t rail all of the time, and for some reason, during the 15 minutes it takes us to ride our bikes to school in the morning, it is typically not rainy.  It might be foggy, misty, or slightly drizzly, but usually not rainy.  I think Mother Nature might just be looking out for us.

But on this Tuesday morning, she wasn’t.  It was coming down pretty hard, so I said, “You guys want to drive?” and Nadine said, “Yes!” and Miles said, “We should go for it!” and Nadine agreed.  So we did.  And after we got on our bikes, it started to rain harder.  And after I dropped the kids at school and started biking back, it started to rain even harder.  But I didn’t care.  I actually loved it.  It wasn’t cold, just wet, and totally invigorating.

Miles, the night before, had gotten a ride home from soccer practice on the back of his dad’s bike, and he thought it was the best.  He wore his dad’s rain gear, but still got soaking wet.  Todd called half-way home and said, “Can you get a hot bath started?”  (Good call.)  Anyway, that’s why I think Miles wanted to bike in the rain again. Thanks MIles!  Biking in the rain can be pretty fun after all…
