We are so lucky to have such an awesome zoo within a couple miles of our house. It’s called the Woodland Park Zoo and it was my salvation when the kids were younger. We had a membership and went all the time. On a rainy day the kids would spend hours burning off energy at the Zoomazium. And while I love all the animals, I think I might equally love the plants and gorgeous landscaping at the zoo.
We don’t go to the zoo much anymore now that we have so many other interests and activities, so it was such a treat to hang out there tonight, on the big lawn, listening to Medeski, Scofield, Martin, and Wood, running around with the kids, and having snacks and wine with friends. Medeski, Scofield, Martin, and Wood is a funky jazz band (Todd calls it self-indulgent jazz which I think is so funny because they do have some very long numbers) and they were awesome. I just love that organ sound and even though not a lot of people were dancing, when Nadine asked me to dance with her I immediately said yes. There’s nothing I like better than dancing with my kids, and I don’t know if it’s this ‘I Never’ project that’s helping me move out of my comfort zone or if it’s just being older and not giving a damn, but I could have cared less what anyone thought about my middle-aged mom dance moves. What a fun night we had!
