Until now, I never...
Saw the Posies Play Live

The-Posies-Album

We were just leaving to have dinner at Grandma’s when I got a call from a friend saying she had two tickets to see The Posies at Neumo’s and would I like to be her date for the evening.  I really really really wanted to go and told Todd who immediately said, “You have to go!”  So we dashed up to Grandma’s, ate, and I ran out, picked up my friend, and we headed to Capitol Hill.

I started listening to The Posies album “Frosting on the Beater” back in 1994 when I was living in Hoboken.  Such a great album!  We bought our house in Seattle in 1998, and Ken Stringfellow (one of the two main guys) lived just a few houses down from us, although I rarely saw him – except when our dog ended up in his back yard once.  Word on the street was he was touring with R.E.M. or living in France with his girlfriend.

But I never saw the Posies play live.  Until tonight…

It was the 20 year anniversary celebration of Moe’s/Neumo’s -  a place we went to see bands all of the time in the 90s and still do occasionally.  The show was sold out, and our friend (‘The Mailman’ as we like to call him) was playing with his band ‘Popsickle’ first at 9pm.  We got there just in time, and they were awesome.  And it started getting crowded.  Really really crowded.  The club was full of 40 somethings, totally getting their blast from the past.  There was even a couple making out in the corner.

The Posies were incredible!  The sound was amazing.  So good.  The crowd was awesome – totally polite – and most people sang along to every song.  We stayed until the end, and finally headed home around at around 1:30.  Not too bad for a couple of middle aged broads…
