Until now, I never...
Spent the Weekend Alone

Ballard Sunday Market

After spending all day Saturday at my Alchemy Mastery class, Todd called to say he was taking the kids camping and would I like to join them.  Hmm, what to do, what to do…  I hate to miss out on any fun, and was very temped to say ‘Yes’, but I knew that it would be great for the kids to go camping with just their dad, and for me to be alone, with no car, for the rest of the weekend.  So I said ‘No, go ahead without me.”

Being alone is not something I do much, especially on a Saturday night, and I’m not very comfortable with it.  So my first inclination was to call a friend and make dinner plans, but then I decided that I would try to be truly on my own for the rest of the weekend.  So I slowly rode my bike home from my class, it was such a gorgeous evening, and pondered what to do with all of this free time.  When I got home, first I made a bulletin board for Nadine, then I made myself some dinner, poured myself a big glass of wine, and almost immediately fell asleep on the couch.  Wow.  Big night.

I slept in on Sunday.  Delightful!  Which really meant I woke up at the usual time, but stayed in bed with my books and coffee until around 10am.  Then I decided to ride my bike to the Ballard Sunday Market, take pictures with my  Leica camera ( or ‘play Bill Cunningham‘ as I liked to call it) and have lunch somewhere.  It ended up being such a satisfying day, and something I need to do more often.  I always run around with a destination and schedule, and it was completely liberating to just let the day take me where it might, with nobody wondering where I am or what time I’ll be home or if I can pick something up at the grocery store.  Heaven…
