I am winding down to the end of my ‘I Never’ project – only one week left to complete one year and 365 ‘I Nevers’. And there are so many ‘I Nevers’ I haven’t gotten to yet, like Zumba. But today (hooray!) I crossed that one off my list. Today I went downtown to the sculpture park and did the free Zumba class that they offer every Saturday all summer long. They also have free yoga, which I’ve done before, and it is amazing to do yoga in that incredible setting. But while I am pretty comfortable with my yoga moves, Zumba was a foreign beast to me, and I thought I was going to be the laughing stock of the class. And yes, I was pretty spastic trying to keep up, but holy moly, I loved it so much.
I loved the music, and the setting, and the instructors, who were so incredibly cute and so good at communicating the upcoming moves, and they looked like they were having so much fun themselves. But what I liked best were the other people in the class. There were mostly women, but a few guys too, and talk about variety! Young and old and every size, shape, and color. Everyone was having a blast even the spectators, and I was really impressed with the lady next to me, who looked to be in her sixties and had the best dance moves of all. I situated myself in the back, right behind a super cute young Indian couple, and at one point the girl got up and joined the teacher to lead a Bollywood number that was my favorite. Oh wow, she was so darn cute, and had such great moves, I loved it. And I could tell her boyfriend loved it too.
When the class was over I was exhilarated, and convinced this would become my new thing. Then I took my time walking around the sculpture park, which has a few great new pieces I wanted to check out, and the headed home to join my family for the rest of this beautiful summer Saturday.
