Tried to Make My Own Bias Tape

a3

I’ve been making pillows like crazy lately, and I love putting colorful piping around the edges.  To do this I’ve been buying folded bias tape, ironing out the folds, and sewing in the piping.  It’s been working pretty darn well, but the bias tape is made of polyester, I’m limited to the colors they sell, it’s an awkward length (I can only make one pillow with it, and then there’s a lot left over) and it aint cheap – around $2.50 per package.  Fascinating, I know…

So today I went on line and found this lovely and helpful site, and got busy making my own.  And everything went just perfectly, until I tried to get the darn stuff through the bias-tape-maker tool.  I guess I didn’t cut it the right size, or evenly, or I don’t know what.  But that part was a bust.  Which isn’t a big deal, because I really don’t need it folded up bias tape to make piping.  But I have been using it to finish off some little potholders I’ve been making.

I guess I’ll use what I have to make piping for pillows, and then try it all again…
