Was Late for My Daughter’s Slumber Party

Yesterday was Nadine’s family birthday day and today was her party day.  Like most 10-year-old girls, this means a sleepover.  But Nadine also wanted to go skiing today, so we decided to do both.  We figured if we stopped skiing by 3pm we would make it home by 5pm when the party started, no problem.  But as we were leaving the parking lot, our friend called to say one of his back tires was stuck and he couldn’t move the car.  Oh dear.  So we went over to help him, but there was nothing we could do, and the time was a-ticking.  He said he’d call AAA and sent us on our way, but now it was 4pm.  Uh oh.

We hurried off and hit the high-way, and uh oh… traffic.  Oh well, we’d just have to call everyone and let them know we’d be late.  Or maybe we’d make it.  So we decided to wait.  Miraculously we made it back to Seattle by 4:45!  We were about a mile from our house, and it was 4:55 when my phone rang.  “Where are you?” said the voice on the other end of the line.  “On our way back from skiing.  We’ll be there in 5 minutes!”  And when we finally pulled in front of our house at 5:05 pm, there were three little girls waiting for us.  Oops!  But we made it practically on time, and as we hurried out of the car, one of the moms said, “I like the way you roll!”   Within minutes the rest of the girls, and the party was on…
