Today marks the end of gluten-free week. I wanted to try eating gluten-free to see if I felt differently, and because so many people are gluten-free these days, I wondered how hard it would be to make the switch. And I have to say, it wasn’t too bad. I think we have a tendency towards eating this way naturally. I don’t buy much bread, we don’t eat that much pasta, and for snacks we eat a lot of nuts or popcorn. But I do love to make pizza, and pancakes on the weekend.
The hardest part was probably when someone offered me a really delicious looking home made chocolate chip cookie and I had to say no. And my menu options were much more limited when I went out to breakfast. But I got some gluten-free bread to have with our turkey-burgers, and they tasted great. And I got some gluten-free flour to make muffins and pancakes. I think baking this way would take some practice, because the consistency is way different, although the taste is just as good.
It was a fun experiment, but I’m totally happy that we can eat wheat.
