I think I’ve mentioned about one million times in this blog how much I love living in Seattle and how beautiful it is here. One of the coolest things about living here is that no matter where you live, even if you don’t have a view from your home, you are in short walking distance to someplace with an incredible view. I am fortunate to live very close to what I think is about the most spectacular view possible – a view of the Puget Sound with the Olympic Mountains in the distance. And today I was lucky enough to be invited onto our friends’ 24 foot sailboat, for a sunset sail right smack in the middle of that view – in the Puget Sound sailing out of Shilshole Marina.
The evening, weather-wise, couldn’t have been more perfect, and the company and food was pretty darn good too. There were ten of us on the boat that night, pot-lucking and drinking wine, and even though we just tooled around off-shore, it was sensational. I’ve only done a little sailing in my life, in small boats, but I totally see why people might get obsessed with this mode of travel. The captain let me steer a bit that night, and I did what I could to help with the ropes. It was only a mildly breezy night that night, so there wasn’t too much to be done, except to relax, take it in, and enjoy the company.
