I’ve almost always had long hair, and when I was a kid I liked to wear braids once in a while, and even dabbled in the French braid look. But I have never sported the two braid look as an adult – oh, except maybe once or twice skiing. So today when I woke up to snow on the ground, for some reason it just seemed like the right kind of day for braids. So I decided it would be my ‘I Never’ for today, not say anything about it, and see what kind of reaction I got.
For the first half of the day I just ran around doing errands and nobody said anything. Then in the afternoon I went to Todd’s holiday party and got one nice compliment about my braids, but I was the only girl there so that is really one more complement than excepted. After that party we went to another party where the wine was flowing, and so were the braid comments, mostly of the Heidi and Swiss Miss variety, but some compliments too, like “I was just reading today how women over 40 shouldn’t wear braids, but they look good on you.”
Funny thing is, I really like wearing braids. They show off the rainbow colors of my hair and they’re really practical. So I don’t think it’ll be the last time you’ll see me in braids.
